About Us

BACKGROUND

Voluntary Sector Consultants was established in 1998 and serves non-profit and voluntary sector clients across Nova Scotia.  Our mandate is to assist non-profit organizations achieve their goals and mandate through education, training, design and supportive processes.


OUR TEAM

Veronica McNeil is the founding member and principal consultant of Voluntary Sector Consultants. A native of Nova Scotia, her experience in this field spans 25 years, and ranges from volunteer positions, direct service staff, and Board volunteer. From 1996-2006, Veronica was a Principal Instructor for Dalhousie University's Non-Profit Sector Leadership Program, teaching board governance and accountability. Over the years, Veronica has developed and maintained an extensive network of colleagues in both the Voluntary and Public sectors and has worked with almost 100 diverse non-profit groups in Nova Scotia and across Canada.

Veronica is a graduate of Saint Mary's University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and holds Certificates in Counseling, Adult Education and Advanced Facilitation Techniques.  She is currently enrolled at St. Francis Xavier University in the Diploma in Adult Education program.

Laurie Cook is an Associate Consultant with VSC for the past six years. She is a graduate of Kings University with a degree in Journalism and is currently completing her Masters in Adult Education at St. Francis Xavier University. Laurie spent many years in the television and film industry and went on to manage all of the professional development programs for the industry's umbrella group - Moving Images Group.  She has also been Principal Instructor in Strategic Planning in Dalhousie University's Non-Profit Sector Leadership Program.

Laurie has extensive experience in community development and was one of the first community participants in Halifax's inaugural Envision Leadership Program. She has served as Chairperson for many community development initiatives and is currently serving as Chairperson of the Community Visioning Process in Musquodoboit Harbour, a component of Halifax's regional planning process.
